The Struggle Of A Britney Fan: Excepting Britney Spears; Who She Is Now
It’s a battle that’s been in progress for years and with no end in sight. Comeback after comeback and 15 years later Britney is still at it but with only some of us still watching and listening. Finally, a fan has become more silent when it comes to expressing their love for Ms. Spears. Things have changed.
Britney fans still love Britney! There is no denying that the performer has built a very loyal fan base throughout the years, but gaining new fans with younger generations seems non existent. The hardest part with that is accepting that the once powerful music innovator has moved on from her most effective days in the industry to what appears to be a less honest version of her early days. Britney has lost the feeling of a pop star.
A friend of mine, also a long time Britney fan, made it to Britney’s Vegas show recently and while excited to experience this next step in Britney’s career, he had this to say on what he saw.
"I felt so bad for her and wanted to cry, she looked confused and not into it."
Whether or not that was actually the case, Britney has been criticized for years for not singing live while our one defense was her performance, but even now that seems to be gone.
Britney spears is certainly not done and over with, that is not the point. She has barely started her two year $30 million residency in Vegas with the Las Vegas Sun reporting,
"The agency’s[StubHub] statistics show Britney’s show has become the third highest-selling Las Vegas residency, behind only those of Celine Dion and Sir Elton John."
‘“Piece of Me” has become our Strip’s new bestseller.”
The challenge now for a Britney fan is where do we go from here. “Britney Jean” Britney’s “most personal album ever” was also her lowest album debut of her 15 yr career; this especially difficult for a super fan when we rely so much on Britney’s record breaking ability. That didn’t happen this time. Neither single off her 8th studio album “Work B*tch” or “Perfume” performed well and to date, her album silently falls on the Billboard 200, currently at #101. Britney’s album was released in early December 2013, two months later, it’s as if the album is lost at sea and even the ships captain doesn’t care. Has Britney finally lost her love to be Britney Spears?
It’s just hard to watch Britney Spears these days. What we saw for the first 5 or so years of the the 21st century was a revolution, a metamorphosis of pop music created by the one and only Britney Spears. Who we have now is a lost pop icon still holding on to the methods that worked so well for her but now without any genuinity. As fans, all we have left is hope, that one day we’ll see that spark again and that maybe she’ll even inspire her piers…
But here’s the thing, I think Britney’s just over it…
